Toothbrushes
-
Toothbrushes: Regular brushing for children and adults should be done with a toothbrush equipped with rounded plastic bristles, densely bound and slightly angled . We do not recommend hard toothbrushes or natural bristles. Toothbrushes should be changed every 8 weeks .
- Electric Toothbrushes : For persons who have problems mastering proper brushing technique an electric toothbrush can be helpful. It makes brushing easier but NOT faster …
- Denture Brushes : Brushes for partial and full dentures should be used after every meal but at least once daily to remove plaque and remnants of food.
Interdentally toothbrushes
- Interdental toothbrushes: are ideal for cleaning normal and larger interdentally gaps, bridges, braces and orthodontic apparatus as well as fixed and removable dentures.
- Dental floss: is good for cleaning tight interdentally gaps. Tie a 30 cm piece of floss around your middle finger, tighten the other end with the index finger so that you have a 3 cm piece of floss for cleaning. Guide the floss as close as possible to the tooth and clean the sides of the neighbouring teeth.
Additional cleaning aids
- Plaque detectors: liquid agents designed to make plaque visible. Older plaque is coloured blue and more recent plaque appears pink. This colouration is easily removed by normal brushing.
- Dentifrice: Dentifrice facilitates brushing of tooth surfaces mechanically and chemically
- Fluoride: It has been proven that fluoride increases the resistance of tooth enamel to damage due to plaque and as such has become an integral part of dental hygiene.
