We design an individual treatment for each patient based on x – ray and plaster cast models. During an initial consultation alternatives for ensuing treatment are explained and discussed, and the duration (usually 6 months to 3 years), cost and individual steps to be taken are determined.
Active orthodontic treatment with removable or fixed apparatus is followed by a passive phase where the new positioning of the teeth is stabilized by means of a retainer.
Indications for orthodontic treatment are:
- regulation of overcrowded and crooked teeth in order to reduce risk of caries and periodontosis
- regulation of front and side teeth for optimum chewing and appearance
- elimination of gaps and malocclusion and prevention of renewed displacement
- correction of crooked teeth in preparation for prosthetic treatment
- correction of malocclusion to prevent false occlusal stress, painful tension of the musculature and diseases of the articulations
- pre- and post treatment in cases of maxillo – facial surgery
